Frequently Asked Questions

How did the markets start? +

Casey Barbles, a Nutritionist, was asked to start a farmers market in 2019 by Radom Capital on their Heights Mercantile development after leading a cooking class at Lemon Laine which highlighted local farms with the ingredients. After the surging success of the Heights Mercantile Farmers Market, which has been operating since September of 2019, Casey was asked to curate two more markets in the area; M-K-T Sunset Market and Rice Village Farmers Market. With the booming success of these markets, Casey began receiving many calls from developments around town to create the same template on their new development sites. This launched The Feel Good Group, an entity that is hired by local developers and other businesses to create Feel Good events on their property that are way more than “just another market”.

How would you describe the markets to visitors? +

Feel Good markets are more experiential than your regular farmers or artisan markets. We curate markets with high quality local vendors but we keep all visitors in mind to ensure they have a great time and want to stick around. – “come shop and stay a while” is the goal. We have unique entertainment that pop-ups like dunk booths, performers on stilts, jugglers, free face paint, a DJ that performs atop a Scooby Doo van , giant chess and many other wow-factors that keep you coming back. We want all ages to have a great time at these markets while supporting local.

Why did you decide to offer this to the community? +

September of last year, Heights Mercantile Farmers Market, had a 1-year celebration market that had a dunk tank dunking 15 local (and very loved) local chefs raising money for I’ll Have What She’s Having, a performer on silts and DJ Chaney performing on his Scooby Doo van. All of these attractions were our first time doing something like this and it was a huge hit. It was a beautiful day and someone came up to me and said, “Wow! Where did ya’ll come from? This event truly makes me feel like the pandemic isn’t even occurring”. This first-time market visitor opened my eyes up to a whole new theme to markets – a more experiential kind...the kind that makes you feel good. I saw that we could create something that benefits the local community, the local economy and allows visitors to feel safe outside of their home and provides them with something fun to experience with friends and family... something that has been put on pause for way too long due to Covid.

How do you feel about being able to provide this? +

I will say, I am still pinching myself that this is what I get to create for a living. This is truly a dream come true to create something that is so beneficial but fun to small, local businesses, especially at a time when many are having to shut down. We are honored we can bring to life an experience that leaves the shoppers and business owners something they too feel good about.
